This past Sunday, I went on a nice river walk with a group of about 65 people. The walk was organized by Los Angeles Walks, Bettina Hubby, NELA RC and Thank You for Coming Cafe. My intention for doing a group walk was to see other people's reaction to the LA River. Am I an odd man out with my enjoyment of the River? Happy to report the answer is a resounding no. I was pleasantly surprised at the high level of interest there is for the Los Angeles River. Plenty of pictures were taken on every step, plenty of oohs and awes and "what is that". One woman exclaimed in astonishment "look there" as we turned the street corner and first came upon the agrestal setting of the river in Atwater. It actually made me smile. I knew this was her first experience seeing the natural beauty of the Los Angeles River. But even with that moment of awe the concrete always seems to prevail and smash you back to reality, or out of it. But that's a rant for another day. The moral of the story is, the Public can and does have positive interest in the LA River as a river. I give high kudos to the great people that organized this walk. There may have been some slight glitches but the overall picture was a win in my book. Bettina and Colleen the "tour guides" were informative and genuine in their presentation of a hidden gem called the Los Angeles River. Thank you all for a lazy Sunday at the River.
